Su Ke or Ke Su is a concept artist based in the United States, he has done a lot of art for the massively popular game League Of Legends. Personally his work is quite different but looks really professional representing each character in the game perfectly. One of his latest images is the season 4 promotional piece ( seen below).
Christian Gerth.
Christian Gerth, is an artist who is situated in Germany who creates vast landscapes and has a very distinct style. He uses land and rock forms and then incorporates buildings and other things into them, sometimes they have a Favela look about them, he also makes very good internal architecture his use of colours styling and shapes really make his piece stand out to me; a lot of his work looks borderline realistic and an idealistic view on some everyday surrounding.
Most of his work looks like it could be in a game or is from a game, i think he would be a great designer for a game that was based in a natural enviroment. ( examples below ).
This is my favourite piece by Christian Gerth who is a relatively unknown concept artist. He uses a strong body of colour which makes his work very bold and bright, and seems to be able to manipulate any piece of land/earth into some sort of living space. This work also reminded me of movies such as avatar but the buildings remind me of the early assassins creed games.
This piece is also very similar to the previous but looks very gloomy, the way the surrounding area is blurred and the main building is clear create atmosphere within the picture this picture isn't as intense either its more subtle but the perspective of the picture make it look really well accomplished. This picture reminded me of call of duty modern warfare 2, there was a map that consisted of brazilian favela's which I think he may have drew some of his inspiration from.
This is on the other hand completely different its not really landscape, it uses dark, gloomy subtractive colour resulting in a very simple but diverse piece which can be seen and resinate with the person looking at it in many ways, some would see a dark scary, alone places others might see an afraid village hiding from the night. This picture reminds me of the game limbo and don't starve, where it is very foggy and dark like in this picture but also the buildings look uncannily similar.
Yoji Shinkawa.
Yoji Shinkawa is a japanese artist. he is most famous for his designing of environments, characters and mechanical designs for Metal Gear and Zone Of The Enders series.
He is the lead artist for many of Konami's games. Today Yoji is renowned for being one of very few original and yet technically accurate artists in the gaming industry. He is inspired by Anime Artists but also says he is influenced by more western artists.
The thing I like with most of his pieces is you could spot them straightaway you know that they are his workings. The structure and the sketch like composition of it makes his work very clever he doesn't over com, plicate and sometimes he must only have about 6 colours on his pallet, he really sticks with the scheme of the metal gear solid franchise.
This is a picture of the well known snake, the main character of Metal Gear Solid. Yoji makes snake look like… snake, the way he uses a minimal amount of colour but producing a very embracing picture, he intertwines so many emotions into his working, multiple at times.
Syd Mead
Syd Mead is the god father of concept art, he was a huge part in coming up with masterpieces like Tron and Blade Runner, his concept art was the main reason for blade runner and torn looking how they looked. His distinctive style of arcitecture within concept art, the way he created landscape for futuristic films really patched a path for other film makers and his cyber punk influences made his work very note worthy. Throughout the 80's Syd Mead was at the top of his games working on many films and also contributed work to many companies such as, honda and sony.
This is a piece of the concept art syd mead created for the movie blade runner and when you watch the film you can see how the atmosphere in the film and in the pictures are nearly the same, its very brooding and dark. There is no falling rain in this pictue but the floor looks wet and he simply just owns the picture and makes it look like what everyone expected the future to look and be like back in the 80's and his dystopian style can be seen influencing films and video games in the modern day.
When it comes to thinking about the future and all things futuristic cars always come to mind and i think back in the 80's when syd mead was creating these ideas he nailed what cars might look like, his optimistic ideas about cars and technology came true to a certain extent to, with technology coming on leaps and bounds. This piece is my favourite of the three I have chosen just the angle of where this was drawn from and the lay out, the bulbs car is the focal point with bright neon lights protruding from the background with the drenched floor really setting a quite yet busy scene in the mind of Syd Mead.
Neon and bright lights set the scene here and they do in the film, a rainy oriental city, full of people, criminals and heavy rain. In every piece of concept art that i have seen from Syd Mead for the film blade runner the sky is always black and weary which gives you the feeling that you have to focus and explore the already packed city. The way he's drawn it too is a though you are a person there, you feel as though your in the picture. All of his work seems very well thought through, the way he has prized the environment but also used contrasting, bright colours for the surroundings.
